The idea for the installation project “Terrils” (slag heaps) came to me as I stayed in the North of France, in Sars-Poteries (Sars Pottery) at the border with Belgium. The slag heaps seemed to me to be random components of the landscape, like conical mountains subjected to the mining industry. They disrupt the cartography and grew as dependent elements from something invisible: the subsoil. A mechanical movement that starts underground to expel the matter over ground formed the slag heaps. The soil gets rid off a part of its matter, and a chain of extrusions takes shape on the surface.
